okay... well emily and i have learned several lessons in the past day. yesterday was spent for the most part waiting around... we learned the importance of PLANNING ahead... we went to go get a ferry and there wasnt one until late afternoon -- which didnt get us here to mykonos until late night.. then we got here and all hotel rooms were booked..and we literally sat at a bus stop for hours waiting on a bus that never came. we finally talked to someone who said we could camp at the beach.. and thats what we did - and it actually was pretty fun... we stayed in a tent that had a cot on it on the beach at a little resort area that has like an all night bar/pool/ restraunts...
today - from the beach area - we took the bus into the main town.. and it is just SO cute.. i cant even describe it - the town is made up of a maze of white walled streets (that were originally built to confuse pirates!) being on the sea is just... well - amazing. its just so BEAUTIFUL.
so today we realized we didnt have a beach towel.... only those tiny super absorbant travel towels..whichr eally just dont cut it.. so while we were walking around we decided to look for a towel. uhm -- the first place we found that sold towels -- they were selling them for the small price of 90 EUROS!!!!! (meaning... like somewhere around 150 american dollars!!!!!) for ONE stinking towel. unbelievable. greece is explensive. luckily we found one for only 14.... and it says mykonos - so it provided practicality and a souvenier all in one. good deal.
also - another weird thing... emily and i both have sprint treo phones... and they told us they wouldnt work over her e-- but we thought we would at least be able to use them for time and alarm... NOPE. they are giving each of us totally different times... neither being the time in greece or the times in america. not even close. for instance... it is 12:25 pm on sunday here. meaning 4:25 am in texas/tn. and my phone says it is 7:56 on saturday night. and emilys says something completely different. oh well.
oh yeah - also...its shocking how common smoking is here.. everyone does it... indoors even. its just weird to see people working behind a desk smoking. maybe its not so weird to everyone else. ANOTHER weird thing is -- the othern ight in Athens... we were taking a taxi home and we went down this street.. and there were LITERALLY 20 prostitues just standing there.. no big deal... like - it was totally normal. and the thing is -they were all really really beautiful women. so weird. we told our taxi driver to stay away from that...
oh yes - an important detail i need to mention... emily and i decided to re-think our budget and travel plans - and after much thought - we decided it would save us a lot of money to leave out Turkey on our trip. we only really wanted to go to Istanbul -- and its just too much out of the way to go that far east when we are ultimately heading west towards italy/spain. SO -- we decided to stay in Mykonos for a couple more days... and we just bought our ferry tickets to go to ITALY! we bought an overnight ferry... so that will combine the transport and hotel in one :)
emily is about to get on and upload some pics... we decided that she is more the photo-journalist for the trip.. and i am the blogger... but dont worry - i will make her share her thoughts at some point.
we miss and love you guys!!
